Netflix successfully reinvented itself. These days, we really think of it only as an online subscription streaming service. But that’s not where Netflix started. Originally Netflix used mail-order DVD rentals. However, circa 2007, the company began to suffer with the rise of streaming video. Not wanting to fall behind, Netflix was willing to reinvent itself. Instead of being a mail-order DVD subscription option, Netflix began offering a streaming online subscription. More recently, Netflix has reinvented itself yet again by actually making its own shows. With the likes of House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, it’s safe to say that transition has been a smashing success. Today, there are more than 50 million Netflix subscribers, a far larger number than the company had when it did DVD-only.
