6 things successful people do in the morning

Among the habits of successful people that are worth studying are those involving morning activity. Most successful people are early risers and they make the most of their morning hours by engaging in certain activities that help maximize their productivity and satisfaction throughout the day. Here are some of the things successful people do in the mornings:

Exercise.

An article in Entrepreneur determined that exercise was one of the top morning activities of the rich and powerful. It’s a good way to energize yourself for the coming day. Also, exercising in the morning insures that you get it done before other to-dos get stacked up on your list for the day. If you decide to exercise in the morning you’re in good company. Starwood Hotels CEO Frits van Paasschen runs every morning at 5:30 a.m., while Xerox CEO Ursula Burns schedules personal training sessions twice a week at 6 a.m.

Work on personal projects.

During the work day you don’t get any time to work on projects of your own choosing – and in the evening you’re too tired to do so. In the morning hours, though, is an excellent time to work on personal projects, like writing that novel you’ve always wanted or just journaling or maybe working on art projects.

Spend time with family.

Okay, maybe you’re not going to spend a lot of time with your family at 5 in the morning, but the morning can still be a great time for a family breakfast. If you have night meetings or if your spouse does or if your kids have evening activities, then the morning can be a great time to have a meal with the whole family.

Network.

A morning cup of coffee can be a great time to network. There are actually some networking groups that specialize in morning meetings, such as IvyLife, a networking group for Ivy League alumni. Whether you’re an Ivy Leaguer or not, though, the a.m. can be a great time to network because you can talk to people before they’re exhausted by a day of work and are thus still feeling open and receptive to new ideas.

Meditate.

In the wee hours of the morning before the rest of the world is up and at it can be an excellent time to find the peace of mind to meditate. It can help you feel emotionally and mentally centered and adequately prepared to make the most of the day.

Plan for the day.

Planning ahead and scheduling out the day can be really important for time management. You can help make the day ahead feel more manageable and be more productive.
